from »Quo Vadis Editorial Design?« to »Editorial Changes!«
Europe’s largest Editorial Design Conference is changing, along with the object of its desire, yet it remains the venue for magazine mavens and anyone who has always wanted to know more about life between the pages – for art directors and designers; for journalists and storytellers; for photographers, infographic designers and illustrators; for publishers, printers and any other magazine fans.
For the fifth time, players will present world-wide trends, as well as surprising counter-movements, and compelling transformations for today. Under the new name, EDCH, designers, journalists and publishers from all over the world will report on their current projects, provide insight into successful and failed ventures, and present examples of things that have inspired them. They bring together in the daily work of cross-media design things that have long been implicit in publishing and design – image and text, app and print, zeal and passion. EDCH is more than a conference for and by magazine makers – it’s pure inspiration for designers.
The sister conference for infographics will also be held in 2017 (QVIG becomes INCH). In addition, expect there will be many workshops before and during the three-day conference, accompanying exhibitions, the EDCHopen on Saturday morning, and the »Kiosk Garden«, a new venue for action and discussion in the foyer of the Alte Kongresshalle.
Magazines, newspapers, blogs and Internet posts, magalogs, e-mags and newsletters, independent and mass-friendly mainstream, niche and corporate – the E in EDCH means »editorial« in the strict sense of the term, and the conference guides you with relish through the media thicket, making its designers visible and noticeable.
Three conference days, packed with more than 60 speakers in keynote addresses, lectures and other sessions. Deep insight into magazine photography and illustration will make the spectrum of storytelling levels very clear.
The focus subject will be Korea, the partner country for the Munich Creative Business Week, as well as the MCBW motto »smart revolution«. Music will also play a big role – live as well as printed. And to cap it all off, of course, there will be once again be the big conference party in the inimitable Kongressbar ...
EDCH and INCH will have simultaneous interpreters for German-English and English-German.

The Editorial Design Conference is mounted by the non-profit EDCH Foundation e. V. in cooperation with the Typographische Gesellschaft München (tgm), and with the support of KOCHAN & PARTNER, and independent Medien-Design, as part of the Munich Creative Business Week (MCBW). The Alte Kongresshalle (Old Congress Hall) has been a centreer for public and private events since it was built in 1952/53. Set in grounds near the Theresienwiese at the heart of Munich, the imposing building underwent extensive restoration and technical modernization by the Edith-Haberland-Wagner- Stiftung in 2007 and is now an ideal setting where various kinds of individual events can be staged.
The main hall of the Alte Kongresshalle offers a space for concerts, conferences and congresses. The mezzanine gallery and hall gallery create the perfect atmosphere for smaller private or business events, while the stunning entrance foyer is a prestigious setting for gala evenings, premieres or receptions.
The outstanding feature of this heritage-protected and highly versatile event venue is its retro-futuristic architecture. Its severely simple and clean lines are continued throughout the interior and define the unique character of this landmark of Munich culture.
